My grandfather Cyrus had a step brother Marion Barber, a bachelor, whose mother was, according to my mother, the mother of Cora Pulsifer. William Pulsifer, father of Cyrus, was married 4 times,and also had a number of "housekeepers" according to the many stories about him from my grandmother Lillian Pulsifer. He had a very bad temper, attributed to his experiences in the Civil War. His various wives and women would not stay with him due to his temper. I have some good stories she told me about him! My cousin Walton Spaulding of Crown Point owns the original farm of William Pulsifer in Crown Point, New York. My mother said that William Pulsifer inherited this from his mother's side of the family. I have the name of the family, but will have to ask my mother tomorrow, as I can't find my notes at this moment. William did not live at this farm, but had another farm closer to town where he lived.

She commited suicide over the break up of
a man (William A. Douglass) whom she had
been living with as his wife but they were
probably not married. He was married to
someone else. She went to the Wilbur House
in Seymour and asked for a room for the
night. The next day they found her ill and
discovered an empty ounce vial of Laudanum
in her bag. Doctors were called but could not save her.
They found a letter among her things writted
in pathetic strain, unbraiding Mr. Douglass
for his desertion of her. It is believed this
10 Mar 1885
was her reason for taking her life.N.Y. times

Notes:

She was to meet her sister's body at the
train as it was being transported fron Athol,
Mass. where Edna had died, to be buried at
White Church Cem. The stress of the ordeal was
too much for her, she had a heart attack and died.
The two sisters were buried side by side with
a double headstone.

His wife was Catholic but he never followed
her beliefs. It wasn't until he was on his
death bed that he called for a priest and
converted to the Catholic faith. His sudden
change of heart is said because it was the only way
he could be buried in the Catholic Cem. and
he said " I don't want to be buried up there-
(meaning White Church Cem.) with the rest
of THOSE PULSIFERS !!! His decendants say
he would get mad or moody and go off in the
woods for several days before returning
like nothing had happened.

Cyrus change his name from Pulsifer to Pulcipher.

He moved his family to Oregon; went to
work in a sawmill, fell and was killed.

He enlisted at Plattsburgh, NY Feb 1, 1906 in 5th Infantry NY
and was discharged on July 17, 1906. He was registered for Draft at time of
WWI but I find no record he ever had to serve in war time. In 1906 when Fred W.
was 23 years and 8 months when he enlisted his occupation was laborer, eyes blue,
hair brown, complexion ruddy, height 5'5 1/4". He lived at Crown Point, NY. So
must have either come back to Crown Point, New York from living with his Proctor grandparents at
North Hudson, NY or simply when enlisting at Plattsburgh, NY put home address as
Crown Point, NY where his father William lived.
