| Notes |
- Sunyer (es: Suńer) de Barcelona (later Comte de Barcelona, Girona i Osona) was the fourth child of Guifré (Wilfred) "el Pilós", Comte de Urgell, Cerdanya, Conflent i Barcelona and his wife whose name was Guinidilda / Winidilda. [1] [2] [3]
Parents and Spouse
While Sunyer's father is clearly identified, there are uncertainties pertaining to his mother's family as well as that of his spouse:
Note re Mother of Sunyer:
Sunyer's mother, referred to as '"Guinidilda or WInidilda"', was known to be the daughter of a man named Seniofredo. Some earlier suggestions that she was Gunhild - who was the daughter of Baudouin I Count of Flanders - appear to be controverted by evidence or at least not certain. Accordingly, the link to her remains but her status as Miro's mother and Guifré's wife are considered uncertain. [1]
Note re Spouse of Sunyer:
Sunyer married a woman named Richillde, with whom he had five children. Her family name is not known with certainty, but she has been posited to have been Richilde de Rouergue, who was the daughter of Ermengaud de Toulouse, Comte de Rouergue and his wife Adelais.[2]
Accession
Sunyer first succeeded jointly with his elder brother Guifré as Comte de Barcelona, Girona I Osona upon their father's death in 897. He later succeeded as the sole Comte de Barcelona, Girona I Osona upon his brother's death in 911. [1] [2]
Family
Sunyer and his wife Richilde had five known children: [2]
Borrell
Armegnol
Miró
Adelaida
Jozfredo
Death and Succession
Sunyer had died by 15 Oct 954 and was buried at the Ripoll Monastery. He was succeeded by his eldest son Borrell. [1] [2] [3] [4]
