| Notes |
- Eadgifu was the daughter of Sigehelm, Ealdorman of Kent. Her birth date is uncertain.[1][2] A charter of 959, relating to land at Cooling, Kent, records her father's name.[2]
By 920 Eadgifu became the third wife of Eadweard the Elder.[1][2] They had the following children:
St Edburga of Winchester[1][3]
Eadmund, who became king in 939[1][3]
Eadred, who became king in 946[1][3]
Eadgifu, who is said to have married Louis of Aquitaine (his precise identity is uncertain)[1][3]
During the reigns of her son Eadmund and Eadred she subscribed royal charters. In 957 King Eadwig deprived of her of land, suggesting that she may have supported the claims of his brother King Edgar, some of whose charters she subscribed.[2]
Eadgifu died on 26 August 968 and was buried at Winchester.[2]
