    Notes
    • Ordgar's parents are unknown, as are his birth date and the name of his wife.[1] He had two children:

Ælfthryth, who married, first, Æthelwold and then, in about 964, King Edgar.[2][3]
      Ordwulf[4]
Around the time of his daughter's second marriage, King Edgar appointed him Ealdorman of Devon,[5] serving from about 964 to his death.[6][4]

Ordgar died in 971 and was buried at Exeter.[4][7][8]

      Research Notes
William Harding, in his 1845 book, states that some historians named Ordgar's father as Alpsius. There is no good evidence to support this relationship. Harding also gives his residence as Harewood near Tavistock. As Harding has confused different people, no great reliance can be placed on what he says.[9]

William of Malmesbury erroneously states that Ordgar founded, and was buried at, Tavistock Abbey,[4] and Harding says the same.[9]
