    Notes
    • Poppo von Weimar, succeeded as Markgraf von Krain und Istrien (Marchesi di Carniola et Istria in Italian) in 1012, through the rights of his wife.[1]; [2]

      It is possible that he is also the same man who is cited in charters dated 30 December 1014 and 25 February 1015, but as he is not named by his title but only as the brother of Wilhelm Comes these could refer to two other brothers named Wilhelm and Poppo. Though at this stage such an alternative has not been identified.[2]

      Poppo died on 13 July of a year unknown, but before 1044.[1]

      Disputed parentage
      Several times in the Annalista Saxo, Poppo is named as the brother of Wilhelm and Otto, Margraves, which would indicate he was the son of Wilhelm III, Graf von Weimar, but chronologically this seems to be impossible, and it is more likely he is the son of Wilhelm II, and brother of Wilhelm III.[2] A genealogical table on page 154 of the work on the Margraves of Meissen indicates the problem of making Poppo the son of Wilhelm III.[3]

      It's possible that Poppo, has a nephew named Poppo. the brother of Wilhelm and Otto, and the two men have become confused. Or the author of the Annalista Saxo, has combined Wilhelm II and Wilhelm III into one man.[4]

      Family
      Poppo married (perhaps about 1012), Hadamun von Istrien, heir of Istrien und Krain. They had one son;

      Ulrich I, succeeded his father as Markgraf von Krain und Istrien.[1]
