    Notes:

    Isaac, brother to Mary Santee Loghry, buried at Brown's Crossing, is the only one whose tombstone is still intact in the cemetery. He died at the age of 84 years. His first wife, Nancy Moore, daughter of John and Mary Loghry Moore is buried next to him.

    According the the Historical Gazetteer, Part First, Steuben County, NY; Compiled by Millard F. Roberts, John Single Paper Company, Ltd., Syracuse, NY 1891; Cameron Settlement, pp. 174-176, Isaac Santee settled in the valley a mile from the Canisteo line in 1820. He was a lumberman in Cameron and probably a soldier in the War of 1812 out of PA.

    The Santee family lived in New Jersey where Isaac was born in 1780, prior to moving to Huntington township, Luzerne county, PA shortly after that year. In 1810 he married Nancy Moore, who was bron in 1794, daughter of John and Mary Moore. In 1817 they settled at West Cameron, Steuben county, NY when Isaac's name first appears on the town's records. Their third child, John, was born that year.

    They settled on the Charles Peck farm, where they afterward remained, his house standing a few rods west of the present residence on that place. He conducted a tavern and was engaged in farming, lumbering and operated a sawmill.

    Mr. Santee was prominent in town and church affairs. He was one of the two School Commissioners of Addison township in 1819 and Town Clerk in 1820. He was one of the five delegated from Cameron to the "Anti-rent" convention, held at Bath, January 19, 1830, called "to take into consideration the "condition of the settlers in Pultney and Hornby estates." he was the fifth supervisior of Cameron township serving for the year of 1833 to 1836, inclusive. He was Class leader of the regularly organized religious society in town, which was formed in 1834, at West Cameron. Early meetings were held alsoat the house of Isaac Santee, who was the first class-leader, and afterwards at the school-house near. Luther White was the first steward. Isaac Santee and wife, Phones Green and wife, and Luther White were early members.

    To Isaac and Nanncy Santee were born: Mary (Luther White), Lettice (Peter ?, Drake), John (Rachel Stephens), Joseph (Eliza Sherwood), William (Amy Williamson), James (C. Cole), Jesse (Susanna Williamson) and Tamilia (A. Baker)

    Nancy died 15 July 1840, at the age of 46 years. Burial was at Brown's Crossing buryng ground. Isaac remarried to Mrs. Nancy (Almy) Owens, widow of Jonathon F. Owens. Isaac died Oct 18, 1864 at the age of 84 years. Burial was beside the remains of his first wife. He second wife died January 22,1863, and is buried beside her first husband in the South Hill cemetery.

    Notes:

    Nancy, first wife of Isaac Santee was named for her maternal grandmother, Nancy Purdy Loghry. It is unknown where she was born and where they were married. She was 46 years old at the time of her death.

    According to DAR 43331, Valentine may have died in Huntington twp., Luzerne County, PA.

    Luzernne County Biographies:

    Valentime was a son of John Santee, a Frenchman, and Catherine (Smith) Santee of Easton, PA. With five sons and three daughters. Valentine was among the pioneers of Salem Twp. Lazerne County and did much for the advancement of agriculture in those days. He was a good businessman and a sturdy pioneer.

    Valentine married Funston Margaret on 11 Aug 1765 in Hecktown, Northampton County, PA. Margaret (daughter of Funston Nicholas, daughter of Herald Catherine) was born in 1745 in Mount Bethel, Northampton County, PA; died in 1800. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    John died in 1836 in his 74th year and is buried at Brown's Crossing, Cameron, Steuben County, NY. His wife, Mary died ten years later. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

    John came to America in 1790, according the a nephew who wrote the History of Steuben County,NY; Guy H McMaster, 1853 and was a very early settler in Canisteo.
