  1. 2.  Brown Jabez was born on 28 Feb 1733 in Stow, Middlesex Co., MA (son of Browne Joseph and Fairbanks Grace); died in Stow, Middlesex Co., MA.

    Notes:

    Jabez and others of Stow joined the army distined for Canada during the French and Indian War. Jabez had the rank of ensign. He later served in the Revolutionay War as an adjutant. His oldest son, Thaddeus was also in the war.

    Shortly after the Revolutionary War ended, the migration of many Stow citizens to what is now Waterford, Maine began. This was a tract of land given to soldiers and heirs of soldiers who had fought in a company from Middlesex and Worcester Counties in the Canadian Expedition in 1690.

    The boundary line of the town of Waterford, a township seven miles square, were laid out in 1775. The lot and range lines were run the following summer by Jabez Brown of Stow, Massachusetts, and Col. Joseph Frye of Fryeburg plus 10 assistants. Three of Jabez's sons took up land here: Thaddeus, L8, R7; William, L8, R7; and John, L9,R8. However, John didn't stay long and sold his land to William. It seems Jabez didn't settle here but returned to his home in Stow. The "History of Stow" mentions him surveying the line between Stow and Sudbury in the 1790's.

    Notes:

    Jabez Brown, Jr. was born in Sudbury between 1672 and 1680 and died at Stow, where he resided in 1746. He married Sarah, perhaps Taylor or Gates, and she died in 1765.

    His will was probated on 29 June, 1774 and a copy is in Middlesex County Court House, Probate Office, Cambridge, MA Docket NO. 3043.

    He left a large estate including two farms. His will mentions his only son, Joseph and two daughters. It also made provisions for his widow who survivied him.

    Jabez Brown, Jr. was born in Sudbury about 1674 and died at Stow, where he resided in 1746. He married Sarah, perhaps Taylor or Gates, and she died in 1765.

    Notes:

    Mary's first husband was Jonathan Fairbanks, son of Jonas and Lydia (Prescott)Fairbanks. (Fairbanks III). He was born in Lancaster on August 7, 1666, and was slain by Indians on Sept. 11, 1697. She was taken to Canada but was later ransomed.
    She married in concord, on May 31, 1700, David Whitcombe. They lived in Lancaster where she died.
