    William was an original proprietor of Sudbury. He married Mary, daughter of Thomas Besbeech or Bisby. He was a deacon of the church in Sudbury, freeman on 2 June 1641, a captain and representative under the new charter of 1692.

    In Sewall's Diary is the following entry: Monday, May 9th 1709. Major Thomas Brown Esq. of Sudbury was buried in the old Burying place. Bearers, Cook, Sewall, Hutchingson, Townsend, Jas Dummer, Dudley, Scarves, and Gloves." "The Old Burying place" was that of King's Chapel, Boston. The wife of Major Thomas Brown was buried in the East Side Burying ground, Sudbury. If Major Brown was not buried with his wife, but it was considered important that his remains should be taken to Boston for interment, the same may have been the case with Edmund Browne.

    Edmund settled in Dorchester, MA but removed to Boston and was a shopkeeper 1694 and there with his second or third wife was Elizabeth, widow of Hopestill Foster. He may be the man, who married 14 Feb. 1654, Elizabeth Oakley or Okley, if the supposed date of baptism of first child but too early by four years or this not to be the first wife.
