      ===Biography===
The ancestor of all Beaudet in North America : '''Jean Baudet'''
Jean Baudet, son of Sébastien (Bastien) Baudet and Marie Baudonnier, was born around 1648 in Blanzay, a small village of the Poitou, (ar. Montmorillon, Vienne), in France. (18 in 1666, 31 in 1681, per censuses).
During the spring of 1664, he leaves La Rochelle along with fifty others hired like himself to work in New France. Jean and the others cross the Atlantic on a small vessel of a hundred tonneaux named ''Le Noir de Hollande'', under the orders of captain Pierre de Filly. Jeanne Mance, who founded Hôtel-Dieu hospital of Montréal years before, is also on board. The 25th day of May,1664, after a 7 week journey, the passengers finally arrive in Québec City.
Jean Baudet is found as a contracted servant with [[Gaudry-54|Nicolas Gaudry]] on the 1666 census. In 1667, he is no longer at Nicolas' service, he cannot be found on that census.

      '''1666 Census''': SAINT-JEAN, SAINT-FRANÇOIS ET SAINT-MICHEL:Nicolas Gaudry, 45, habitant ; Agnès Morin, 24, his wife ; Hélène, 9 ; Jacques, 7 ; Christine, 5 ; Marie-Françoise, 3 ; Nicolas, 16 months ; '''Jean Baudet, 18, contracted domestic''' ; Jean Mallerbant, 15, contracted.

      '''Marriage'''
''Jean Baudet and Marie Grandin entered into a marriage contract on 7 September 1670 before notary Romain Becquet'':The insertion of the marriage contract into the records of the Prévtells us the names of some of the witnesses to the contract: dame [[Gasnier-23|Anne Gasnier]], widow of the late sieur Jean Bourdon, in life écuyer and seigneur of Saint-Jean and of Saint-François, councilor in the Sovereign Council, demoiselle Élizabeth Étienne, Hélène DesPortes, Agnès Morin, Madeleine Normand and Jean-Baptiste de Poitier, écuyer, sieur du Buisson, friends the the intended couple, with Jean-Baptiste Gosset and Gilles Dutartre, being the official witnesses.
On 23 September 1670 in Notre-Dame de Québec, Jean Baudet, son of Bastien Baudet and of Marie Baudonier, of the parish of Blanzais, Poitiers diocese, inhabitant of Champigny, married Marie Grandin, daughter of the late Michel Grandin and of Marie Lejeune, of the parish of St-Eubert in the city and diocese of Orléans, in the presence of Jacques Gaudry, Nicolas Valin, Michel Maillou and Jean Beriau, Henry de Bernières celebrating.

'''10 known children to the couple''' (listed above), who all marry.
On September 4th 1672, Jean Beaudet entered into a 6 year lease with Noël Pinguet the son, before notary Romain Becquet. He obtains by this lease on the St-Michel coast, land of two ''arpents'' by 30 ''arpents'' in depth. Approximately ten of these arpents are plowed, and there is also a habitable house, barn and stable. This farm would be located, today, between the Quatre-Bourgeois road and the La Frenière street, in Sainte-Foy.[http://www.beaudet.fr/Beaudet/Jean_Baudet.html L'ancêtre des Beaudet d'Amérique : Jean Baudet]
Five years later, October 30 1677, the Ancestor signs an agreement with the Lord Louis Chartier de Lotbinière ::'' In presence of the notary Gilles Rageot, René-Louis Chartier, écuyer sieur of Lotbinière, recognizes having leased as of today and for two years, to Jean Baudet, inhabitant of this country and residing on the St-Michel coast and present at this contract, the ground reserved for the seigneurial manor of Lotbinière. This ground is located on the edge of the Saint-Lawrence river. The Lord of Lotbinière reserves the seigneurial rights on this property. Jean Baudet will be able to have enjoyment of it as if it belonged to him and will have to care for it as a good father ...'' This was what is known as a ''bail à ferme'', ie farming lease, most of which entailed either a fixed fee or share of the crop, or both.
Two years later before the same notary, on July 26th 1679, Jean renews his lease with the Lord of Lotbinière ::'' René-Louis Chartier agrees that he leased for three years to Jean Baudet, the principal manor of the land and Seigneurie of Lotbinière , as well as all the buildings dependent on it, with the exception of a room in the manor [... ] the Lord also leases him two cows, two oxen for working the land, a young bull and four small pigs''
According to the historian Raymond Douville, it is plausible to believe that the manor in question was built by Jean Baudet during the first two years of his lease, as it is as probable that this was the residence which he occupied with his family.
On March 2nd 1680 before notary Gilles Rageot again, as well as a lease, Jean obtains from the Lord his own concession, ten arpents by thirty, on the shore of the Saint-Lawrence. He had to pay the ''cens et rentes'' (dues owed the lord of a domain), the sum of thirty francs and a ''denier'' (small denomination). This sum could be paid as follows ::'' [... ] the value of six francs by means of six good hens and twenty-four other francs in grain coming from his land whose quality will be at the discretion of the sieur of Lotbinière.''

      '''1681 Census''': Seigneurie de Lotbinière:Jean Baudet 31 ; Marie Grandin, his wife, 30 ; children : Marie 10, Simone 8, Charles 5, Louise 2, Jeanne 15 jours ; 1 gun ; 1 cow ; 3 ''arpents'' in value.
In addition to being a colonizer, clearer, builder and farmer, Jean also sells eels. He began this fishing on arrival in Lotbinière, but as of 1681, he makes a true trade of it. Thus we find him that year in Ville-Marie, to sell to the merchant Jean Milot twenty eel barrels. During more than twenty years, he will enter into contracts of this kind.
As the Ancestor must also deal with the delivery, he later makes an agreement with Michel Boucher for the carriage of his goods.:''on May 10 1689, Michel Boucher of Lauzon commits himself to transporting from Lotbinière to Montreal 45 barrels of eels, which he gets at residence of Jean Baudet. This deal is made at a rate of eighteen ''livres'' per barrel that Jean promised to pay. One speaks here about 45 barrels, at a rate of approximately 500 eels per barrel. This fish abounds fortunately in the area. A memoir from the French-Canadian genealogical society provides some information on this subject: fishing for eels was practised especially from Québec to Trois-Rivières . There was no place more favorable than Sainte-Croix, the Platon and Lotbinière. One took in only one tide up to three thousand of them. The eel was a significant resource for the feeding of the first Canadians.''
The family of the Ancestor is very busy in September and October, because it is the only season for this fishing. Jean and his sons must collect them, and all the family lends itself then for the salting.
On its arrival in Lotbinière, the family counted only three infants. They are now ten : Marie, Simone, Jean Charles , Louise, Jeanne Françoise, Jean Baptiste, Marie Josephe, Michel, Jacques and Marie Madeleine.
The boys will establish themselves in Lotbinière , while the girls, after their marriages, will leave the village for Saint-Antoine , Cap-Santé, Saint-Nicolas, Sainte-Croix and La Prairie.
On 2 November 1708, Jean Baudet and Marie Grandin, of Lotbinière, sold to their sons, Jean and Michel, a piece of land in the said location of ''10 arpents, 3 perches'' by 30 in depth, adjoining on the north-east to Jean Hamel and on the south-west to the heirs of the late Joseph Lemay dit Delorme, with buildings built on it. They had it from Louis Chartier de Lotbinière, before notary Rageot on 2 March 1680, this sale being before notary Louis Chambalon
On 4 November 1708, Jean obtains another concession from the Lord of Lotbinière: it is located west of the village, covering about lots 101 to 124 of the current land registry of Lotbinière. This ground counts fifteen arpents in frontage, along the river, by thirty of depth. By obtaining this concession, the Ancestor thinks of the installation of his sons, only one piece of land being insufficient for his four boys.
The couple Beaudet-Grandin advances in age. March 25, 1714, Jean sells to his son Michel part of his second concession, of five arpents of frontage by thirty of depth. The remainder of this concession will go to Jean-Baptiste and to Jacques : they will each have five arpents.

      '''Death'''
This contract of March 25, 1714 is the last which we have of the Ancestor.
Four months later, July 13, 1714, Marie Grandin, then widowed of Jean Baudet, presents herself before the notary Dehornay de Laneuville for the reading of the inventory of the goods of her husband. No document indicates to us however the exact date of his death. But a document of 28 May 1714 before notary Louis Chambalon where Marie Grandin ratified a sale made by her cousin Louise Prou named her widow of Jean Baudet, not wife, so he died between 25 March and 28 May of 1714.
Marie Grandin, widow of Jean Beaudet, in life habitant living in the seigneurie of Lotbinière, St-Louis parish, made a donation of land in the seigneurie of Lotbinière to her son Charles Beaudet, habitant of the same place; the donation was done before notary Dehorné (Dehornay), royal notary from the Sault-de-La-Chaudière up to the limits of the Jurisdiction of Trois-Rivières, on 25 February 1715, and inserted into the Prévôté de Québec records on 15 March of the same year. In return, he must take care of his mother by providing her housing and food. He undertakes moreover to provide her annually a skirt of ''carisse'', a fabric bra, two handkerchiefs and a pair of socks, and every three years, a pair of French shoes. After her death, he will have ten masses said for the rest of her soul.
July 14, 1715, one year almost day for day after the reading of the inventory of Jean Baudet, Marie Grandin dies in Hôtel-Dieu of Québec .
But the Beaudet descendants will multiply, in Canada as in the United States
