Urbain was one of the recruits sent to populate the colony of Ville-Marie in Canada. He came to Montreal in 1653 where he had a five year contract to colonize the area and fight the Iroquois. After his contract was up he and many others returned to France. He then returned to Montreal in July 1659 and in 1664 married Mathurine Juillet daughter of Blaise Juillet and Marie Antoinette de Liercourt. They had eight children. On October 20, 1664, was performed and solemnized the marriage of Urbain Baudreau, trustee for the inhabitants, son of the deceased Jean Baudreau and Marie Chauveau, his father and mother, and Mathurine Juillet, daughter of the deceased Blaize Juillet, resident of this place and of Antoinette de Liercourt, both of this parish. The three banns having been previously published without opposition. The marriage was performed in the presence of Hugues Picard, step-father of the bride, Antoinette de Liercourt, her mother, of Zacharie de Puy, major of the garrison, of Charles d'Ailleboust, Sieur des Musseaux, and many common friends of the parties. The said bride, her step-father and her mother declare not knowing how to write or sign concerning this matter.PROVINCIAL ARCHIVES OF QUEBEC MONTREAL, CANADA The 28th day of January, 1695, there died in the communion of our Holy Mother Church Urbain Bodreau dit Graveline; aged seventy-two or more, whose body was interred in the cemetery adjoining the Church of this parish on the 29th of said month. He had made his confession to me, the undersigned curate of this parish, and received from my hands the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Extreme Unction. The witnesses were Michel Barthelemy, priest, and Pierre Chantereau, who declared he could not sign when queried following the ordinance. The above assisted at the interment. Signed: M.
