Charles Branchaud dit Lacombe was baptized on 10 Sep 1662 in Macqueville (St-Étienne), Saintonge, France. He was the son of Jacques Branchaud and Antoinette Vincent, his godparents were Charles des Montils, Escuyer, Sieur de la Samsormerie, and the Daymoselle Jeannette Vinet, Dame de la Courade, and the curate LeRoyer, of Macqueville, France, performed the service.[Fichier Origine for Charles Branchaud #240578][RootWeb Person Sheet for Peter Brancheau, son of Charles Brancheau]

Military Service He arrived in Nouvelle-France around 1687 as a marine soldier belonging to the company of Pierre Payen de Noyan.[ It is believed that Charles and his brother Francois both left for Canada at the same time, however there are no documents supporting this. Charles was stationed at the Marine encampment located in LaPrairie, Quebec in the year 1687. Records show that Charles was at Quebec City in 1689, but there is no mention of his older brother Francois at all.]
Du Noyan and his men helped defend the city of Quebec in 1690. There is a list on display at the Citadel of Quebec showing the name of those who fought in that battle. One of the names on that list is "Charles Branchereau, Soldat du Noyon".
Marriage Contracts Annulled Charles, while still surving under De Noyon, entered into two marriage contracts, which were subsequently annulled:# Charles Branchereau signed a marriage contract with Anne Leblanc, daughter of Nicolas Leblanc dit Labrie and Madeleine Duteau on 03 Mar 1691, recorded by notary Jean Cusson. [#Charles Branchereau, son of Jacques Branchereau and the deceased Antioinette Vincent, signed a marriage contract with Anne Fay, daughter of the deceased Pierre Fay and Marie Quinqueneau on 10 Jan 1694, recorded by notary Louis Chambalon.][BAnQ Charles Brachereau and Anne Fay Contract 1694 Roy, Pierre-Georges, Inventaire des greffes des notaires du Régime français, Québec, R. Marriage 43 days after the marriage contract with Anne Fay was annulled, Charles Branchereau married Marthe Garand, daughter of Pierre Garand and Renee Chonfroin, on 22 Feb 1694 at St-Laurent on Isle de Orleans, Canada, Nouvelle-France. The bride's mother was deceased at this time. Others present included Pierre Naud, Francois Noel, and the priest Dauric performed the service.[Marriage Record for Charles Branchereau and Marthe Garand m. 1694 Collection Drouin, IGD (Membership)] They had six children, all boys, three of which lived to marry.
Charles left military service before 05 Oct 1701 when he was found living in the parish of Ste. Famille on Isle de Orleans, Canada, Nouvelle-France where two of his sons were born and where his eldest, Charles, was buried.
Charles had been given a plot of land at Montmagny, Canada, Nouvelle-France as a reward for his long and faithful military service and by 27 Nov 1702, he and his family were living in the parish of St. Thomas, at Montmagny as their son Joseph was buried there on that date.
Death & Burial Charles Brancereau, husband of Marthe Garand, died on 13 Dec 1711 and was buried on 14 Dec 1711 at St-Thomas, in Montmagny, Canada, Nouvelle-France, at the recorded age of 55 years. Present were Jacques Blais, Charles Fournier, and the missionary priest C. Hazeur dit Desauneaux performed the service.[Burial Record for Charles Brancereau d. 1711 Collection Drouin, IGD (Membership)]
