      Harriet D. Brown Ames---

Mrs. A. E. Ames died at her home in somonauk at 10 minutes past twelve o'clock Wednesday morning, November 17, 1915 aged 74 years and four months. She had been suffering from a cancerous growth on the eyes for several years, and a year ago she had a stroke of paralysis, from which she never fully recovered. She was confined to her bed only five days in her last illness.

Harriet D. Brown was born at Eden, Erie County, New York, July 16, 1841. She was united in marrieage to Mr. A. E. Ames at Hamburg, NY, September 17, 1860. The couple moved to Illinois in April 1860 (probably 1861) . For seven years they lived in the country near here, after which they moved to Somonauk, where they have since resided..

During the first years of her life in Somonauk, Mrs. Ames united with the Baptist Church of which she continued to be a faithful and consisitent member. She was a good woman and a true Christian and duriing her long illness she bore her suffering with Christian fortitude, adn at all times was the most grateful for the kindness bestowed upon her by her husband and children. She was ever willing to do all in her power to assist a friend, and may be truthful as said of her, "She hast done what she could."

Mrs. Ames was a charter member of the Sandwich W. R. C. and a member of the King's Daughters of Somonauk, taking great interest in both of these organizations when her health permitted.

She leaves to mourn her death a loving husband and four children, Mrs. Nellie Brigham, of Spencer, Iowa; Emma Suydam of Bakersfield, CA; William C. of Piano, and Henry W. of Peshtigo, WI and one half sister, Mrs. Ellen Hickock of Maywood, and eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Two children, Alice M. and Charles E., preceded her in to the better home.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist church at 12:30 last Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. John Acheson. Interment took place at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
