==Biography==Alix or Adèle (in English Alice) de Courtenay was the daughter of Pierre de France, Seigneur de Courtenay, and his wife, Elisabeth, dame de Courtenay, and was perhaps born about 1160,[Van Kerrebrouck, Patrick, Les Capétiens: 987-1328, Tome II of Nouvelle histoire généalogique de l'auguste Maison de France, Villeneuve d'Ascq, 2000. p. 452-453] or circa 1160-1165.[Cawley, Charles & Foundation of Medieval Genealogy, 'Champagne Nobility', version 3.7, 15 April 2016, in Medieval Lands: A prosopography of medieval European noble and royal families. http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/CHAMPAGNE%20NOBILITY.htm#_Toc448070574 ] Her father was a younger son of Louis VI 'the Fat', King of France, and his wife Adelaide de Maurienne.
===First Marriage===Alix married before 1179, Guillaume I, Comte de Joigny, the son of Renard, Comte de Joigny, and Adèle de Nevers, and had one child;#Pierre, succeeded his father as Comte de Joigny 1220, but died in April 1222 without issue.
Alix and her husband were legally separated because they were related within the prohibited degrees in 1186.
===Second Marriage===She married secondly, sometime before 1191, Aimar or Adémar III 'Taillefer', Comte d'Angoulême, son of Guillaume VI 'Taillefer' Comte d'Angoulême, and his wife Emma de Limoges. Their only child was a daughter;#Isabelle (or Isabella), succeeded her father as Comtesse d'Angoulême, and married (1) John, King of England; (2) Hughes XI 'le Brun', Sire de Lusignan and had issue from both marriages.
Aimar, Comte d'Angoulême, died 16 June 1202 at Limoges and Alix, died circa 1218, or perhaps on 11 or 12 February that year.[Wikipedia contributors, 'Alice of Courtenay,' Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alice_of_Courtenay&oldid=736169591 : viewed 27 August 2016). In particular Reference 3.]
==Research Notes ==A merged profile has that she married secondly in April 1186, but no sources were cited.
